The United Arab Emirates came into being on 2 December 1971 and contains seven states that include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al Quwain and Fujairah. The last state Ras al Khaimah became the part of UAE on 10 February 1972.

The Court System in UAE

The UAE operates its system according to the federal and local levels.  The local level deals with the separate court systems of each state and judiciary department. On the other hand, the federal level controls the courts and judicial system across the whole country. Three degrees of courts that regulate at the federal and local levels including the Court Of First Instance, Court Of Appeal, and Court Of Cassation at the local level.

Federal Supreme Court is the highest judiciary in the UAE. The Federal Supreme Court further heads the federal judiciary. The court of the first instance deals with the disputes that occur based on civil, administrative labour, and other personal disputes.

The criminal courts are also present in the country to deal with offensive cases, felonies and misdemeanors. The criminal courts consist of either 1 or 2 judges that take decisions in the light of laws. The decisions and discernment being issued by a court of instance can be appealed before going into the court of appeal.

It occurs when an appeal may be filed due to a breach in public policy, or invalidity of judgment procedures that may affect the decision among the suspects. The cassation court deals with the cases that are filed in opposition to the decision made by the court of appeal concerning certain cases, under 173 of Civil Procedure Law.

The court of cassation looks into the matter when any mistake occurs in the interpretation or against an application issued against the rules of jurisdiction. The court of cassation also deals with the cases when the court of appeal announces a decision that lacks reasoning and inadequacy occurs in these decisions.
