What is Heavy Metal Detox and How Do I Know Whether I Need It?This is a very good question that I am often asked by many patients and customers. Let me begin by answering the first question: What is a heavy metal detox or a toxic metal detox?
ventssmagazine is often referred to as a method of mobilizing and eliminating toxic metals from the body. This involves two stages – one is the mobilization of the heavy metals, and the other is the elimination. Let us look at these two concepts in a little more detail.
Mobilizing Heavy Metals in the Body
When heavy metals enter the body through food, water, and the environment, they enter the blood circulation and are carried around the body in the blood vessels. As toxic metals tend to create havoc in the body by creating free radical damage, otherwise known as oxidative stress, the body in its innate wisdom tries to push them out of the circulation into the body organs, tissues, and cells.
So, they get stored in different tissues – the first stop for the body is the living tissues outside the body – these are the hair and the nails and the fat. Storage in these tissues does the least harm, as they are outside the body.
After these storage sites are full, then the body will begin storing in the brain and nerves, the kidneys, liver, bones, and many other organs. Once the heavy metals enter the organs, they will begin to do damage to the DNA, attach to various amino acids such as glutathione and block vital detoxification processes, and generally cause a cascade of metabolic imbalances that are not at all healthy for the body.
So, it is important that we mobilize these toxic metals and get them out of the cell. If we can pull them out of the cell to the outside part of the cell called the mesenchyme or matrix, then we will have a chance of picking them up and getting them out of the body through the liver and kidneys.
The mobilization of heavy metals from inside the cell is called intracellular chelation and there are natural products such as HMD that are designed to do this, backed by scientific research – see Dr. Georgiou’s Heavy Metal Detox Protocol below.
Eliminating Heavy Metals from the Body
Following on from what I was saying above, the next step, given that we have got the toxic metals out of the cells, is to help them to be eliminated from the body completely.
As already mentioned, it is the detoxification organs that are responsible for doing this – the liver, the kidneys, and the lymphatic system are the main ones, but the skin can also play a role.
It is therefore important to optimize the function of these detoxification organs by supporting them – one way of doing this is to use herbs that can do this – this is why I formulated HMD LAVAGE which contains the following herbs:
- Dandelion root (Taraxacum officinale) – high in antioxidants to combat free radical damage. It also supports the liver and prevents liver damage from toxins, as well as helping with inflammation.
- Milk Thistle Seed (Silybum marianum) – often known as the “liver herb” as it can protect the liver from damage by various toxins.
- Burdock root (Actium lappa) – contains powerful antioxidants quercetin, luteolin, and phenolic acids. It also helps to detoxify the blood and promotes increased circulation on the surface of the skin.
- Red Clover Tops (Trifolium pratense) – this can help to purify the blood by acting as a diuretic, clearing mucous from the lungs, improving circulation, and helping cleanse the liver.
- Turmeric root (Curcuma longa) – a natural anti-inflammatory, and a potent antioxidant.
- Hydrangea root (Hydrangea arboresens) – can protect the kidneys from damage from toxins, and is also a strong antioxidant.
- Uva ursi leaf (Actostaphylos uva ursi) – mostly works on the kidneys and urinary bladder, helping to optimize their function, and contains gallic acid and tannins which are powerful antioxidants.
The other supplement that is important for the elimination of heavy metals from the body is HMD CHLORELLA. Chlorella has special properties that helps to clean our fluids (blood, lymph), our tissues, our emunctories (intestines, liver, kidneys, skin, lungs).
Once the toxins are dislodged and outside the cells, they attach to the fibres of chlorella membrane. These fibres cannot be digested, so they are eliminated via the stools, along with the toxic metals, as well as PCB’s and dioxins.
These 3 supplements, the HMD, the HMD LAVAGE and the HMD CHLORELLA. These are part of Dr. Georgiou’s Heavy Metal Detox Protocol, otherwise known as HMD ULTIMATE DETOX PACK.
How Do I Know Whether I Need a Detox?
I have written a number of articles backed by scientific research that have shown that WE ARE ALL TOXIC, to a greater or lesser degree. There is not a person on this planet that does not have some heavy metals in their bodies. Even young infants who get them directly from the placenta in the mother’s womb.
So, we ALL need to detoxify from heavy metals on a regular basis. But the best way of measuring the amounts of toxic metals scientifically is to conduct a Tissue Hair Mineral Analysis.
What is a Tissue Hair Mineral Analysis?
I have often run Tissue Hair Mineral Analysis tests on my patients with surprising results. You are never certain what type of heavy metals you are going to find in people.
Like the plumber who came to see me for erectile problems. When we ran a hair test we found that his lead levels were off the scale. He apparently used to use a lot of lead solder for joining copper pipes. Eliminating the lead over a 6-month period resulted in his erectile problem being cured.
Another case was a farmer who suffered from so much heat under the soles of his feet that he often had to dunk them into iced water. It was unbearable for him to walk around his farm, particularly with such hot weather in Cyprus. When we ran a hair test, it came back with his arsenic levels through the roof. Apparently he had spent many years spraying his crops with insecticides that contain arsenic. Without using the proper protective gear and masks.
Please note, however, that the initial test of hair will usually show what heavy metals are circulating in the blood of the child or adult. Sometimes it may storyretelling come back as very low levels, because these are what are circulating in the blood. The initial hair test will not show what heavy metals are stored in the organs.
However, if the test is repeated 2 months later. After taking a natural heavy metal detox such as HMD for these 2 months. Then the post-test will show metals that have been eliminated from the organs as the body stores these in the hair. Often there are HIGHER amounts in the post-test compared to the initial test. An indication that these were in the storage sites of the body and are now being eliminated using the HMD.
Dr. Laurence Wilson, M.D. in his book entitled Nutritional Balancing. Hair Mineral Analysis refers to hair analysis as a soft tissue mineral biopsy. A biopsy is an analysis of body tissue, in this case, to detect mineral levels. Hair analysis provides a reading of the mineral deposition in the cells and interstitial spaces of the hair over a 2-3 month period.
